Superscapes, a Crux Capital portfolio company and leading landscaping firm based in Carrollton, Texas, was recently highlighted in Landscape Management Magazine. The feature showcased the extensive work the company completed on 91 acres at The Star, where they oversaw all aspects of the green-scaping process—from initial construction to ongoing property maintenance. Superscapes’ expertise and large-scale project management earned them recognition for their impressive efforts.
For those of you new to town, the Star is home to the Ford Center, which serves as the practice facility for the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the Cowboys’ World Headquarters. This makes Superscapes the official landscape company for the Cowboys, responsible for maintaining the grounds of this iconic sports complex.
In addition to being the hub for the Cowboys, The Star features a bustling retail area with shops, dining options, a wellness center, and luxury condos.
“It always has to be a top-notch property,” says Kris Abbott, vice president of Superscapes.
The year-round upkeep involves tasks like weeding, mowing, irrigation, trimming and seasonal changes in plant colors. The maintenance crew relies on Bobcat and Vermeer equipment, John Deere mowers, Exmark walk-behinds and Stihl handheld tools. According to Abbott, they also use custom-blended soil amendments and fertilizers tailored to soil sample results. “This is a custom landscape project, and everything is tailored to that site specifically,” he says.
A key challenge for the project is managing the wear and tear the landscape endures from heavy use and constant foot traffic, especially after events. Restoring the grounds often demands significant effort, as there are high expectations for the property’s appearance.
“This is one of the premiere properties in the Dallas/Fort Worth area,” he says. “Our guys have done really well on it.”
