Superscapes Helps Teen Cancer Survivor Turn Business Dream into Reality

Original Article: Carrollton Leader - July 31, 2024

Last Friday afternoon, in partnership with the North Texas Make-a-Wish Foundation, Crux Capital portfolio company, Superscapes showed up to fulfill the entrepreneurial dreams of a pediatric stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor who bravely battled through months of chemotherapy to win his fight against cancer.

Blane Cross never imagined that he’d be forced to embark upon a medical journey until he discovered a lump on his neck at age 14. In the Carrollton Leader’s recent article, the young man shared how challenging it was to endure long stretches without seeing family or friends, as his weakened immune system kept him isolated during treatment.

From Blane’s perspective, mowing the lawn isn’t a task—it’s an escape. He finds peace in the simple act of being outside, feeling the warmth of the sun, the breeze through his hair, and the hum of the blades cutting through the grass. He says his lawn has become a kind of sanctuary, a place where he can clear his mind and find calm in the rhythm of the mower.

When Superscapes CEO Shawn Clayton got wind of this one-of-a-kind wish, he knew it was the perfect chance to step up and help out this brave young man.

Superscapes didn’t hold back, equipping Cross with brand-new gear, including:

  • A standing lawnmower
  • A hedge trimmer
  • A backpack leaf blower
  • A broadcast spreader
  • A lawn edger
  • A Coleman backpack cooler
  • A color printer and copier
  • A backpack sprayer
  • Gas cans, hoses, tree trimmers and other necessary equipment

Last we heard, Cross plans to officially launch Cross’ Cuts this summer, and he’s excited to put his new equipment to good use while spending time outdoors.
